Grandpa and Grandma Bondurant Visit the Big D!

We truly enjoyed our recent visit with Grandpa and Grandma Bondurant. Because it was so hot here in Dallas, we spent a lot of time indoors, but we came up with many ways to entertain ourselves. Ford found that Grandma Bondurant (a former basketball player) was a great basketball coach and spent a good amount of time shooting hoops indoors while Grandma counted the baskets he made. Emerson put on quite a show--smiling, cooing, and drooling--and was happy to meet her Grandparents for the first time. Check out our Shutterfly Share site for pictures and video.

We did get out to do some shopping (thanks Grandma and Grandpa for the cute outfits for E and the cool sunglasses for Ford!) and eating; two of the best things Dallas has to offer.

We appreciate the long trip that the Grandparents Bondurant made coming from Virginia. We look forward to seeing them again this fall when we make the trip to Alexandria.

We miss you!

Gulf Coast Getaway

So maybe its not the Florida Keys, but I think every Texan ought to have spent some time on Texas beaches as a child. I did and I treasure my memories. Galveston, Port Aransas, Padre Island, Corpus Christi...they're all laid back, fairly low key and great places to build sand castles, play in the surf, and probably spend a little time in the hotel pool, too.

We rented a condo recently in Port Aransas because I wanted Ford to have a little beach getaway before summer camp started up in Dallas. It was hot, I'm not going to lie, and traveling with a two-year-old and a newborn 4 hours (plus time for pit stops along the way) from Austin, where we spent the night with my family, was no easy feat. But I think the boy enjoyed himself and will look back at our family picture album and swear he remembers being there, laughing hysterically as the waves rushed over his feet, building sand castles just to crush them, and examining all sorts of marine life that washed up on the shore.

So if you ever find yourself in Port Aransas, try to ignore the seaweed and the cars on the beach and enjoy the sun and the sound of the surf because it can be fantastic. Just ask Ford. And definitely make time for a meal at Shells Seafood and Pasta. Its a small little joint (maybe 5 or 6 tables?) and if you don't arrive early you will have to wait, but the food is the best on the island.

Cool dudes.

Build it up and smash it down!

Ford enjoyed the tidal pools.

Emerson enjoyed the shade of our tent.

The day that a front loader and a dump truck arrived to
clean up might have been the best day of all.

Well, like I said, it might have been the best day.

Since when do they let 5 year olds graduate from high school???

I could swear it was just yesterday that my sister started kindergarten. All arms and legs and long blonde hair...well, not much has changed in that department!

But seriously, time has passed so very quickly and my little sister (fourteen years younger than me) has grown into a really amazing woman. She's accomplished so much. Corey's an amazing dancer (two time officer on her high school dance team), student (National Honor Society member) and athlete (she's really a great bowler and has participated in a number of competitions with her high school team!). She's funny and artistic and beautiful. There's going to be no stopping this girl as she heads off to college and beyond.

I'll be sad to see her go, as will be her best friend, Ford, but excited for all the new adventures that await her. We will be looking forward to all the holidays that she returns home!

Below is a link to my shutterfly share site with pictures from graduation day. Good luck, Corey! We love you sooooooo much!
