Its almost like being in Vegas!

Though my due date is quickly approaching, Matt and I thought it might be fun to set up a little last minute wager on Baby B. I emailed family asking what their guesses might be to the following questions:

1) How much will the baby weigh?
2) What will be her birth date?
3) What time of day will she be born?

The prize, since this isn't really a pool per se, will be a signed copy of Matt's next book, The Night Swimmer. There is relevancy between the bet and the prize, as part of Baby B's name comes from the novel's subject matter.

I've gotten a few responses, but if you are still interested in playing along (both friends and family are invited to join in) send me your guesses. Here's what we have so far:

Three going on four

In the next few weeks, our little family of three will become four. We are experiencing a wide array of emotions here in the B household, ranging from excitement and anxiety to happiness and fear. I've fit about 9 months of nesting into a week and a half and I am still afraid that we're not prepared. But we are. The baby will come and we will survive. As Matt put it: "It's incredible that we can't stop this." True, true. It is an incredible process and one that we know we are fortunate to be experiencing.

I'm trying to soak up these last few days...napping with Ford, working on the dissertation, sewing and organizing, keeping things clean and orderly (mostly because I know nothing will be clean and orderly again for many months). Ford is very excited. He loves to kiss my belly and talk to the baby. I think he's going to love the new addition, though I know there will be tough times ahead for him as he struggles to share his parents' attention with a newborn who will need a lot.

This blog is for family and friends near and far. I will share pictures and updates as a way to keep everyone in the loop and document the growth of our family. My hope is that you will check back every now and then and enjoy this experience along with us.
